Try doing a search as the 600cc debate has been done several times on here before.

The power from the 600cc engines is reasonable and I think they are fine for little single seater race cars or buggys that weigh maybe 250kgs, but in my opinion they are too small for a conventional road going BEC that will weigh 4-500kgs. Everything in those engines is going to be smaller and weaker than a larger capacity engine (inc gearbox and clutch) so I just cant see them lasting.

Also, we'll all admit that there are drawbacks to BECs (no reverse, frantic revs when cruising etc) but one of the main plus point is the performance you get. If you put a 600cc engine in there you wont get particularly great performance yet will still have all the BEC drawbacks.

If you want to save costs and buy a cheap engine, go for something like a CBR1000 which you can regularly pick up for £3-400. That way you get a good strong engine that will give you proper BEC performance and will have a good chance of staying reliable.

You can get plenty of power from them, we managed 115 brake (WITH A 20mm AIR RESTRICTOR) by fitting a turbo. But the cylinder heads did'nt tend to last long, but we did ocassionally rev them near 14000, which was painful.

The more strain you put on a motor the less time it will last, and a 600 will undergo more demand an hence strain in a car.

A 600cc bike engine in a 7 will have no more acceleration that a pinto engine. You might as well use the pinto. At least it has a reverse.
