1.8 cvh
Having read through the stuff on this engine, I wonder if there is some definitive advice? Are the 1.6 &1.8 heads interchangeable? Are the sumps the
same? Can I find a modified jobby from a 1.6 which fits? What carbs can i use that affect the bonnet line least? Do i have to modify the bellhousing
to get it to fit?

I've fitted the 1.6 head to my 1.8 CVH. It all seems ok but I've not run it yet (some sources have suggested I'll end up with too low
compression).
Don't know about the sumps but the type 9 bellhousing I've got fits as does my old mk2 escort box.

Ricky,
Not wanting to upset anyone using the 1.8 CVH (i'm sure a good one is fine), but I put mine in a skip:-)

I've been told a few times that it's only any good as a boat anchor but hey - it was free (well, as near as) and it'll push it through the SVA
emissions tests after which I'm on the hunt for a Zetec.

Steve,
I think you missed the Aussie slant there, and everyone knows that kangas are SVA exempt.

1.8 cvh
while I appreciate the humour, a zetec is some way off and the 1.8 cvh it is. Hows about it lads and lassies, any help or am I doomed to walk this
world hunting for the skip I need to chuck it in?

my 2p worth-you can put 1600 head on a 1800 block but the compression will be tooooooo low, change the pistons as well to bring it back, there are a few
other bits you will need, timing gears, dizzy etc but i think its a better engine than the pony.
who cares who wins

1.8 cvh
Thanks for that. Any links to the necessary info on what needs to change specifically?

Am I missing something here? What's so wrong with the 1800CVH engine?
By all means fit a 1600CVH (mpi) head, change the pistons to get comp up, then you can fit a decent cam etc etc. But if you are building on a budget
then I'd think the 1800 is OK as it is - subject to wear etc.
They make more power in std nick than a 1600 X'Flow, run on unleaded, and are plentifull. When more money is available then it's fairly easy to
upgrade to a Zetec.

1.8 cvh
Yup dave. First rule of new project is always balance pessimism with the grandiose optimism that got you into the project in the first place. Find one
1.8 cvh prepare for kit THEN worry about whether the thing will fit under the bonnet with the existing carb, rocker cover etc. plan b: can i modify
it?
