car built 10yrs ago sva ?

Can anyone advise I am thinking of purchasing a lancia stratos replica,its the right price.
But it was built 10 yrs ago and has always been registered as a lancia hpe on the log book since it was done and all the mots show just lancia on the mot.
Is it possible to register it correctly without an sva or would an sva be required.If an sva is required can anyone think of any major obsticales,also would it be able to kepp an age related plate as the donor was the vehicle it is registered as?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Just a pity it hadn't been "fixed" on the run up to SVA being introduced would have been much easier.

Look Here for some great info...

Worth writing to the DVLA, and if not successful in finding sufficient proof then getting it checked out by a manufacturer may be worthwhile as to SVA-ability

Worth checking the chassis number on the MOT - is it a Lancia number or kit? Any minor detail could be the key....even the colour, perhaps (clutching at straws on that one)

PS If you buy it (and are local), can I bagsy a nosy? The Stratos is one of my favourite replicas...

When did SVA start? I built a Dutton Melos back in 1984, (which was well before it), which used a Ford Escort 1300cc as it's donor. This was registered as a Ford Dutton. I only sold it four years ago, and there was never any question as to it's legality. All this despite the fact that during the period that I owned it the complete running gear was changed to Ford 3ltr. Capri. I think that if you have a V5 for the vehicle don't rock the boat, just carry on as the previous owner has done, It's a Lancia, and thats that.

That's exactly what I would do.

I know a few on here would (rightly) say it should be SVA's etc, but I would personally carry on regardless with it.

Just clear everything in black and white with the insurance company, make absolutely sure your ar*e is clear with them and there should be no big issue.

Thanks for the help guys,it has shed some light on matters.but think i may sva it .Have got a gt1 through mk indy and a gt40 .Shouldnt give any more headaches then either of these,only thing in the main i am wanting to avoid is a q plate as they dont look good on replicas but if i can get age related plate which i dont see why not as engine number and vin match log book and the beta is the main donor vehicle for this kit.
Stev Bubs you are welcome to look at it but im not that local Rochdale Manchester will be at the oulton park live action day in it,also going to detling show maybe thats a bit nearer for you.

A couple of the replies above are spot on. Don't look to change it and create problems.

If the car was registered 10 years ago, it would have come under a different set of rules, which would have allowed it to go on the road as the donor vehicle in a rebuilt state.

I do Porsche 911 type things on occasion. Ten years back I could, quite legally, put a car on the road using parts from a rustbucket early 911 with the identity of the donor, AND STILL CALL IT A PORSCHE!!! Believe it or not.

It all depended on how many parts, and which ones, were used from the donor.

There is every likelyhood that your Lancia kit was put on the road legitimately as a Lancia.

That was in the days you only needed an MOT to register a kit. AHHH, glory days.
