newmarket

anyone live near newmarket?
i was working at an old airfield today at exning, opposite the racecourse.
it was suposed to be a bomber base but the surviving hanger and taxiway are only big enough for a fighter.
anyone know who was based there?

The actual racecourse itself was used as a bomber airfield. Maybe the bit you saw was the only bit left ? There won't have been much concrete laid, they'd be grass landing strips I think...

i read about the clerk of the course turning up one day to find a bomber on his beloved turf, its just the hanger and taxiway didnt fit in with the bomber bit.
i thought bombers would need a concrete runway?
