Amp draw

Any one know how many amps a MIG welder draws?

Depends on the welder!

My Clarke 151e turbo on full power draws just enough to blow a 13amp fuse

My SIP 130 Turbo must be on the verge of blowing a 13 amp fuse - and it makes the house lights flicker like crazy

hmmm, my new machine draws 52 Amps

On a more helpful note, you can get away with running up to a 200amp mig from a normal 13 amp socket, as long as you are prepared to change the fuse every now and again when working at full whack.

That's what I do with my 210 amp machine (actually I substitute the fuse with something less likely to blow when working at full power, the whole circuit is protected by a breaker anyway.)

Prob not, as above I run a 200amp machine no probs.

The light flicker is probably more to do with a very long spur to where you plug the machine in, coupled with undersized cable feeding it.

Depends what power setting you are using the welder at and what the open circuit voltage is.

My Sip 150 will trip a 16 amp MCB but dosen't blow 16 amp fuse wire or the 13 amp fuse in the plug ---- it only takes above 13 amp for an instant as the arc is first struck.

If you need more power wire direct from your fuse board it is not a dig deal I mean loads of peps have 11.5KW showers and they need 50 odd amps
