Bike Carbs Again

Hi

I am gonna start looking for some bike carbs for my 1600 pinto with a 2lt injection head fitted

Is there anything to look out for?

Do the carbs end up having to be dyno jetted?

Which Carbs are the easyist to modify / replace the jets etc

I know some jets cost the earth

Manifold is no problem

Thanks

ets are easy - you can drill them out. Dynojet needles are more expensive.

Manifold is most expensive bit but you have that covered.

Are you fitting megajolt? Bike carbs dont allow easy vac advance connection to dizzy. If you are going megajolt then some carbs have TPS ready fitted which is nice (eg R1).

Im fitting bike carbs to 2.0 pinto and opted for ZZr1100 Keihins (38mm choke). Maybe smaller choke will be better for 1600.

Are you making your own manifold?

Ian - yes gonna make my own manifold

Fabricate one offs for a living so it shouldn't be a problem

Was planning to use the electronic dizzy just to keep the cost down

Heres the numpty question what does
ets stand for in the world of carbs

Anyone know how to get over the dizzy vacum problem

Des Hammel says with the pinto dizzy just take a vacuum off one of the manifold runners and it will be fine.

I didn't buy that so I'm modding the dizzy to remove the vacuum advance and give a better curve etc.

I built an engine with 38mm gsxr carbs on a pinto. The dizzy got in the way so we ditched it in favour of a megajolt.

Only the pilot jets are expensive (about £5-7 each). The weber DGV/DGAS main jets fit the Kehin carbs (Kawaski, Honda) and they're only £1.60 each from http://www.fastroadcars.co.uk . They may fit other stuff too. To be honest the pilot jets that come in the carbs should be OK. If not I have a couple of spare sets of 35+38 pilots to fit the kehin carbs you can have cheap.

for reference

CBR600 - Kehin VP: 36-38 pilot jet
CBR900 - Kehin VP: 40 pilot jet
CBR1100 - Kehin VP: 42 pilot jet

All for late carb model bikes, don't worry too much about the pilot jet size, my 2.0L zetec runs on 42 pilots with 1.5 turns out on the mixture screw, but it will run on 40's with 2.5 to 3 turns out. You don't want to go much more that 4 turns out on the screw though.
