Passenger footwell endplate

Is there any (SVA) reason why the footwell end plates have to be welded in?

I'd like to have mine fairly easily removeable in case I need to get at the timing gear on my (bike) engine.

Ta.

adds to the chassis strenght - but they don't have to be welded in. I know of some cars that use Ali and glue / rivet them in place.

MNR rivet and Sickaflex ally panel I think this is a firewall so has to be permanent.
