Zetec Help Needed
I have a Westfield 1800 Sport roller with supposedly all the parts to install a Zetec engine. Come to find out the engines I bought (2) won’t fit all
of the boltholes on the MT-75 Trans, nor the starter motor or the right side motor mount. I was told I have phase 2 engines 2001 Focus & 2000
Escort. Now I find out the parts I have are for a 1991–1994 Zetec Phase 1. I have looked for an older motor but there don’t seem to be any in my
area. I found out why I can’t find any Phase 1 engines because they were never brought into North America. I live in Leawood Kansas USA.
Anyone else have any conversion experience on this problem or have an older Zetec for sale?
Thanks Harry

I can sympathize - I live in Canada...my buddy & I are building a pair of Zetec-engined Locosts on 2+2+2 McSorely-design frames, and we're
using Ford T-5 transmissions. You can get a bellhousing to mate the late-style Zetec to the T-5 from quad4rods.com/ , (John Ehrlich). They're
beautiful bellhousings, cast & machined like Swiss watches. He also makes a stand-alone ignition system for the Zetec with, would you believe,
only 3 wires to connect!! Anyway, it may be easier to use a T-5 trans and an Ehrlich bellhousing than to try to adapt the MT75. T-5's are
found in Pinto, Mustang II, etc. LOTS of them around. We got 2 good ones for $75 apiece...

Hi Harry,
Although mine is a silver-top (1994) I can say that there are only 5 bolts that hold the gearbox to the block. The starter bolts to the gearbox.
Have you got the Duratech engine ? any chance of a photo?

No these are not Duratec’s. They are 2.0’s out of a 2001 Focus and 200 Escort.

this has got me worried as i'm banking on matching up a later zetec to a t9 for my locost (planning stages yet) build
anyoe have a solution other than a custom bellhouding to make this work?
I'm sure I could make an adaptor and figure out which clutch pressureplate clutchdisc and throwout bearing combination will work but I'd
like to figure out the tried and true method before trying it on my own.
oh ya I've found a hot deal on a focus 2.0l engine at the local breakers, gotta figure out if I can make it happen first.

Nothing wrong with the engine, as you say its a phase 3 black top zetec.
The problem is your gearbox. It doesnt look like the one fitted to the Sierra or Granada/Scorpio over here in the uk.
This is a pic of mine. I cut the bottom holles of to get extra ground clearance.

violentblue, No probs the black top will mount to the type nine no probs.
There are just 5 bolts in the block that hold the engine to the gearbox. The two that would hold the sump to the gearbox on mine have been cut of to
give ground clearance.
