Boy-racer morons
Went out for a drive last night - came up behind an S-reg BMW, who took one look and put his foot down. "Fair enough" I thought, and
carried on going quite fast (as intended).
I then noticed that the pillock in front of me was cutting blind corners, turning at junctions without looking, and hammering through narrow village
roads at stupid speeds - just so I couldn't catch him up. The beemer was obviously not in good shape as it was puffing oily smoke at every
gearchange. I was generally driving within the law and within my limits - and I was still right behind him!
In the end I saw him turn left at a junction, so I went right - he was a pending accident and I didn't want to get drawn into a 'road
racing' charge - even though I wasn't racing.
This isn't the first time that a boy racer has tried to show off when I've been out driving - is it just me, or is it a common thing?

Pretty common i would say. I'm glad you did the sensible thing and let him get on with it. If it happens to me i'll just leave them to it.
If they want to write their car off then thats up to them. Actally it annoys them more if you don't race them.
Also you can be happy in the knowledge that you would certainly beat them on a propper track anyway.

I always take great satisfaction from the fact that they think they've got to try that hard because it's a Se7en 
....but I always turn off as soon as possible because, like you say, it's not worth the aggravation.

It's even worse when they drive like that trying to keep up with you. Scares the sh!t out of me. If I stopped they wouldn't.

i know someone who had a similar problem (brooky) had to have his back panel remade as it got a little dented.

I had a similar experience while driving SWMBO's tin top (Honda CRX) I was driving between traffic lights on a stretch of dual carriageway -
fairly brisk but not racing or anything. At the final traffic light before the road opened up I noticed this Nova / Saxo / Whatever slowly overtaking
me with the driver raising a fist of triumph as he passed! He actually thought I was racing him!
I snicked into third and I couldn't see him for dust - well it would have been rude not to wouldn't it

I've recently had a much better experience with a bike rider. I was going fast along a dual-cabbageway with roundabouts - safely, looking where
I was going, keeping in lane, mindful of other drivers, etc. etc. Then a rider on a BIG Ducati came up behind me and stuck with me round the corners,
accelerated with me, but stayed tidy and safe when I slowed down. This went on for 10 miles or so, until I had to pull into a lay-by. We exchanged
cheery waves and he went on his way. NOT racing, NOT being macho, just having fun. As it was a Ducati 997 or 999 he could have passed me anytime he
wanted to!
Maybe that was the difference - he had nothing to prove...

BTW: It's quite amusing to see bikers giving a cheery wave when I drive around in my Locost - maybe it's because I wear a full-face
helmet?

If I pass any "flash" car if they are doing 60 on a dual carriage way, the always have to speed up and then overtake me. Some people have
a strange mentality.

Similar thing happened to me last night with an S2000. I thought I was going steady - no where near the limit, and this idiot in the S2000 was giving
it death in front of me - in the wrong places! I eventually overtook him on an uphill drag for safety reasons. Realising he was beat, he turned down a
side road. There's a lot of them about who can't drive for toffee. I've no doubt a well driven S2000 could have kept with me, but
this guy was a complete t**t

I had it twice last night !
once in brightlingsea , so bloke in an old lotus, i was following behind, he booted it ( loads of smoke )
scared the poor women in front of him and it was on a blind corner,
felt great not doing anything !
then 5minutes later near Bentley (bikers night)
driving about 45ish blue saxo up my arse the a mondeo decided it was passing me and the saxo !
didn't see the coppers down the road or the car coming at him !
but the boys in blue did !

I get that alot with my 106 when I'm making it shift - the difference is my 950cc, 4 gear car isn't even really capible of anything above
70 - its the look of disbelefe I get when after 5 mins i pass them again
they seem want to show you whos boss, then forget about you then slow down - meantime you have just been driving at the same speed the whole time
(unless there was a big hill in my case)
can't wait to get the dax on the road....

My beef is not so much what you guys are talking about although it does happen....
If I travel down the A12 to work in my Seat at 70 - 80 very few people overtake. If I'm in "The Toy" everyone wants to get by...
Why?????
It's the t**ts that are incapable of judging your speed that really upset me...
The count so far, in the first 1000 miles, is that I have had cars pull out on me 8 times
I generally find it's at roundabouts... I think other drivers expect you to be going at the same speed as yer average tin top and don't
realise that you are cornering, within the limit but faster than normal.
Whats really annoying though is when they shake their fist at you as though it was your fault... ... I just smile, wave, and point to my eyes...
A**holes....

What annoys me more than anything is the boy racers that are all over your *rse in the 30/40/50 but can't keep up in the NSL twisty bits, they
soon catch up in the 30 section though and then try to overtake

I was in town today in the tintop and 2 lanes both moving forward and the inside filtered left at a set of lights. The inside lane came to a
standstill when a chav mobile decide he wanted to go straight ahead but i was in the ouside and the lights were still at red. Mucho revving of said
punto to alert me he was there prolly cause he realized the road ahead was blocked(for him) by a parked car. You know the scenario (lights go
amber and hes away but the v6 leaves on green and boxes the little fcucker in and all the cars behind me get through as well. DICKHEAD left reving
with egg on his face

^ i had the same sort of event apart from the d**khead didnt stop for the parked car! the idiot was too busy looking at me and trying to accelerate
that he plowed into the back of a stationary 406!

Years ago, a friend was driving a 2CV and overtook a bloke in a Shogun.
Shogun man not amused and couple of mins later, friend gets overtaken by Shogun.
Friend goes round corner to find Shogun in ditch. Friend carries on driving with smug grin on face

I like to use cruise on the open roads and it's amazing how many people pass me, then fall back again, only to pass me a second or third time
again, even though I haven't changed speed at all.

I think the real danger is the amount of fumes that I get to breath when they floor the gas. one old XJS chucked out so much crap I thought he was
running steam power! Love the good old traffic light Grand Prix...they don't stand a chance .

Since my Velocity is still waiting to be started I've yet to experience this but I have had similar driving my mates old Esprit back from
Ancaster Kart centre. Tit in a Cavalier GSi 2000 in front must've seen me behind him as he started to edge his speed up (through a 40 limit in a
village, twerp!) and when we passed the derestriction signs off he went, wrong side of the road etc. I didn't bother chasing and could imagine
this idiot bragging to his mates in the pub about the Lotus he 'burned off' that night.
I once followed a Montego Estate and an Escort van on Paston Parkway in Peterborough who were having a drag race. The Monty was passing a lorry and
Escy man was annoyed at his more rapid progress bring held up. When Monty man pulled in Escy man tried to pass with fist waving so Monty man floored
it. I was on my Kwack GT550 and, while not a speed machine by any means was more than capable of keeping up with this particular 'race'
They managed to creep up to a speedo-indicated 105mph before having to brake for a roundabout. The clouds of smoke emitted by their exhausts under
accelleration would have put a destroyer to shame
