I have never been to a Locost race however i might be going to oulton on the 26th may and i was wondering how many cars start each race?
PS do u no how much it costs

Hi, in answer 2 u'r question - the no. of starters varies according to track.
I'm new to the Formula (started racing this season) but i think it varies somewhere between 'bout 28 - 36 depending on the circuit (quite
high!)
At some meetings there are enough entrants that the 750 mc have 2 run two grids / races to accomodate all the cars (Donington - first race of the
season had 'bout 44 registered entries)! 
With regards 2 cost (im assuming you mean cost of entering each race) this also varies from about £100 to £165 depending on venue, no. of races etc
etc.
If you mean cost of getting in to the race meeting (i.e. spectating) this is around £10 - however if u ask some of us racers nicely there r sometimes
some complimentry passes going spare...if u'r lucky!
u should definitely come along 2 Oulton if u can make it - its quite a sight seeing 30-ish nutter locost racers all making a dive 4 the first
corner...and if the first three races r anything 2 go by there's likely 2 be a few 'accidental collisions' along the way!

me and my mate are coming to watch at oulton. were about half way through building our car and hope to race in next years championship. any chance of
2 x passes from someone? i know im a cheeky git but hey, if you dont ask!!!! ( + my cars costing far more than the £250 promised in the book!!!!!)

Pumpers, just turn up. I went to Brands, parked for free, sat in the Grandstand for free, thought "I wonder if I could get close up to the cars
to get some build ideas", just wandered through the tunnel to the pitlane and then spent the next 3 hours peering at everyone's cars and
taking photos! Total cost of good day out was the price of the petrol to get there and back. All the owner/builder/racers were very happy to talk so
just go and ask! Different tracks of course may have different policies, but I'm sure even if Oulton charge some money it'll be a nominal
amount.

mmmm..... isn't this years car 69 Mark Crankshaws old car??? ie the current driver didn't errrrr...... actualy have much/anything to to
with building it?  . Damn good car tho, Mark and his brother are fine automotive engineers and deserved more sucess with it than they got.

as it happens Dave - u r a touch off the mark! The car used to belong to Mark's brother, Paul and whilst the car did prove to be a good
'foundation to build on' when I bought it I have actually since modified or replaced about 60% of the entire car. I say 60%, but this is
also bearing in mind that I haven't modified the chassis which was in fact originally purchased from MK and wasn't built by Paul or his
brother in the first place.
I assume the tone of your email was intended to question what degree of knowledge I have regarding the building of Locost Race cars and as it happens
the kind of levels of research and investigation I have carried out since owning Paul's Locost from the middle of last year i am entirely
confident matches if not exceeds your obviously 'extensive' catalogue of knowledge. I have also been avidly involved in Classic Fords for
the past five years and have fully rebuilt and restored two original Mk 1 Ford Escorts (in fact the very cars that much of the locost running gear
consists of or is very similar to) in every aspect from the running gear right through to restoration of the bodyshells. In addition to all the
aspects of the Locost I have modified I am also currently building a second Locost from scratch as a joint project with my cousin who is intending to
race in next year's series. IN ADDITION to all this, I actually have a 1st Class Honours Degree, and Masters in 'Mechanical Engineering
with Automotive Design', have worked for 2 leading companies both at the forefront of the Automotive sector, and am currently applying for
positions as a Professional Design Engineer within the field of Motorsport and Race Car Development.
Is that enough evidence for you that I might have an 'inkling' of what I'm talking about!!!!
p.s. I'm looking forward to Monday's race, to see who's 'Car Developments / building' seem to have been more
succesful.

Just 'cos Brett hasn't beaten you yet though don't think he wont he can drive the dodgy cars/engines I build for him better than
almost anyone else racing Locosts at the moment
What's all the nonsense about how may academic qualifications you have btw - they mean little to nothing in club motorsport - Tony Southgate
races in the Kit Car championship after all and you would think someone who designed race winning Le Mans cars would walk away with it wouldn't
you!

As 4 Monday, no offence intended - and I do have respect 4 you, Brett & Jon - I realise you guys have been at the Locost game a lot longer than i
have & am sure both u'r knowledge & Brett's driving experience far outweigh mine 2 date. Anyway, believe it or not I reckon all
that stuff should start and end where it belongs - on the track! (just got a bit carried away).

Yeah, and I probably shouldn't have posted that message - whatever, it's done - it doesn't pay to underestimate experience and
driving skills over academic stuff though as I have learned the hard way
I'm not a driver and I have one ambition left in Locost (and it's not winning the championship btw) and then I want to move on - there is
no point getting too technical with a Locost because unless you are cheating it isn't going to gain you anything - it'll teach you a good
bit about how to drive/build a car, how much people are willing to cheat to win, what drivers are like etc etc but it's just the very bottom
rung of a very long ladder - this is our 4th season doing it and to be honest I'm bored stupid with it.
Probably if I drove the car it would be different - but I don't so it's not

didnt mean to cause a spat!!! ill quite happily talk to anyone, ill quite happily nick anybodies ideas!!! ill quite happily combine those ideas to
get what i think is this best design!!! and then ill quite happily race my car, probably come last or worse, but enjoy every minute of it, as im
doing building the thing ( which is probably the most annoying thing ive ever done!!!) yes i want to win but realistically ive got no chance. no i
will not cheat even if others do. i will take advice from anyone and freely give as much advice as i can with my limited knowledge. its nice to know
some others think in a similar vein and steves offer is very much appreciated. hopefully ill get some other ideas from mr beddows. ( you used all
your complimentary tickets mr beddows? now need 4!!! LOL) im hoping to talk to as many people as i can, qualified or not to add to my knowledge
and im also hoping everybody is friendly and enjoys what they are doing, otherwise whats the point? ill certainly have a good day on monday and will
hopefully learn something. pumpers.

You didn't cause a 'spat' pumpers that was all down to me I have a bit of a history in such matters when I'm bored lol.
One thing I will say is that I wish people wouldn't use nicknames on here 'cos you can be chatting to someone at a race meeting who has
introduced himself, as lets say 'Brian', for ages and only after half an hour do you realise it's the bloke calling himself
something like 'LOCOST MONSTER' on this group.....
eg. - 'Hello I'm pumpers' (just for example) ........lots of us laughing, sh*ts probably going wrong so we need a bit of light
relief, you feel like we think you're a muppet - hello I'm Steve (or whatever) on the other hand, no one laughs....just a thought!!!
As for tickets, nope, sorry mate home race and all that entails.......feel free to come and say hello though.
