Battery mounting ideas...

Evening all.

I'm just pondering ideas for mounting the battery in my car. Basically, I have bought a bog standard lead acid battery from Halfrauds. It's a 45amp hour one (with a wierd thingy on the side, see other thread!).

The location that it needs to be mounted in is right at the front of the car (It's a Sylva Mojo). There is basically the aluminium floor panel for it to sit on. The steel chassis rails already have brake pipes or fuel pipes mounted on them, and in front of the battery is the steering rack and mounting points.

Obviously I want to make sure that no acid can spill onto the ally panel, so I am thinking that forming some kind of tray from plastic sheet (eg polypropylene) would prevent that, then using some kind of webbing strap arrangement to hold te battery down to mounting points on the floor panel should be plenty strong enough. The mounting points could be angle ally section that also double as a guide rail for the battery to sit in.

Has anyone got any other suggestions as to how to mount a battery to a floor panel, before I go and drill holes?!

Cheers
Andy

Mk3 escort battery tray. Can be bought cheaply at any car panel shop for about £8. It is just a flat tray with a clip one end.

The battery is not completely sealed, so the possibility exists that the acid from inside it can find its way outside. Sulphuric acid and aluminium don't get on well at all, so the panel needs to be protected...

I'll have to try and find one of these escort panels to have a look at..

You can get battery mats to sit under the battery, they are chemically loaded with an alkali to neutralise any acid spill, having sai that I would be sure the alkali can't leach onto the Ali as it will eat it as efffectively as acid!

i just bolted mine down with the Bracket / Clip from a Ford, (well two of them, one each end) and M6 Rivnuts through the panel. Seems to work a treat, plus its a ll std form bits from the scrappy yard.
