MK Type nine gearbox mount
Hi
I used the old Sierra mount and when I drove the car last week the gearbox was moving too much with the prop catching the chassis.
Have others had this problem?
I'm not sure whether to just get a new Sierra mount and hope it will be stiffer or go for the Westy mount and have to make some modifications to
fit it.
I phoned MK and they say they have no problems with the standard mounts.
Also, does anyone know if these are main dealer only parts?
I need to get it sorted fairly quick as I hope to be on the road next week.
Suggestions welcome

I think Westfield do one which is a lot stiffer

apparently the westfield one is stiffer than the sierra one. They are quite cheap too, I bought one and will be fitting it to my type 9 in a couple of
weeks.

Does the Westfield one fit straight on to the MK chassis?
I thought it wasn't a straight swap for the Sierra one.

it is different to the sierra one, but I think it bolts to the two strips of steel welded to the chassis trans tunnel.

The Westfield gearbox mount is a Mk2 Cortina mount. Thought it looked familiar, when I went to rebuild the Mk2 box last week.

Has the exact same problem and have now bought a westfield mount. It´s much stiffer and I will put in the car this winter

westfield mount doesnt fit the mk welded strips,you have to make a bracket ,
drill a hole in the centre for mount and four holes to bolt to the strips on the chassis

I've ordered the Westfield mount and will either make a bracket or use the Sierra bracket to fit the Westfield mount in.

Hi
When using the bracket and bolting the Westie mount on top will this change the angle of the gearbox or will it be level?
Anybody with a pic of the complete bracket and westie mount with the gearbox in plce?

Hi or as a sucsesful bodge i have used in the past on an indy is to use two bits of right angle pushed up againnst the centere of the sierra mount but
not tall enough to hit the g/box it' self and then drill a hole through each to line up whith the existing holes in the mount and then bolt in
to the car as normal if that makes sense. 25mm tall x 50mm along base x width of the mount . 3mm thick should do.
It still has the soft rubber but now can't move left and right hitting the tunnel sides.
Still best to use the westfield mount though as it is only £9ish deliverd.

I used the Sierra mount with another big repair washer inside the bell washer and it doesn't move much. I think it compresses the rubber more

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Well I already have the Westie mount. And before I fit the engine and gearbox I was just curious how I need to fabricate the bracket. The basic
outline is no probs but my worries are if I need to lower the westie mount "into" the bracket or will just bolted on top suffice?

When I fitted a Westfield mount I remember having to fit the base of the mount lower than the standard Sierra one.
I used 3mm steel plate with a hole large eough to fit a socket through for the centre bolt with the rubber mount fastened on top.
This plate then had to be fitted underneath the tunnel mount plates with a spacer wheras before it mounted on top.
So I'd expect to have to adjust the height.
Good news is the gearbox is substantially stiffer with the Westfield mount.
