Pinto sump swap

quick question; I've got an rs2000 sump i'm planning on fitting tomorrow, other than shortening the oil pick up pipe and using new longer bolts is there anything else I should be aware of????

Cheers

Yes - the oil pickup pipe is completly different and it not simply a matter of shortening your existing one.

I would suggest you try and find the correct one or be prepared for a really tricky problem

thanks, just read it too late

looks like I'll be putting tin sump back on till I can track down an rs2000 one, I was hoping to shorten but as you say its far from simple looking at it.

Any ideas where I can get one? Burton don't sell them.

Thet come up on ebay from time to time. Sometimes only with the sump though!

I ended up with two sumps and one pick up for this reason. Made a small profit by cleaning the worst of the two sumps and reselling it.

Good Luck

To update the archive the other issues are:

1. starter motor will not fit straight back on, edge of sump needs to be modified, or get an rs2000 starter.

2. clutch cable routing is also different, it probably requires a different length release arm to align properly, although I got round it by cutting a piece of tube at an angle so that the inner cable runs straight.

Additionally check that the base of the sump is flat, a previous owner had jacked the car up on the sump and dented it, the bottom ends runs very close and caused it to grind! sump off, blow lamp and hammer fixed.
