unable to boot my p.c

unable to boot up windows x.p.
Bias settings indicate hard disc no present, how ever when trying to resinstall windows the retsore program indicates that c:\windows is present but is unable to over write it.

Any ideas

Many thanks

Cheers

Is it set to auto detect in Bios? I sounds like your drive has gone west They are cheap enough so I would install a new drive and see if you can get anything off your old one. You could try a Linux live cd to see if you can access the drive but it doesn't sound very promising. What make is the drive as the manufacturer websites have tools to run in dos to access their drive functions if they are still accessible.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Sounds like a knackered hard disk to me, are you saying that the bios isn't detecting the hard drive? Not quite sure how windows is detecting a drive if bios isn't though.

What type of drive is it? IDE or SATA (big wide ribbon cable or smaller thiner cable)

Regards

Rich

Could just be a bad sector on something important. but as soon as drive starts playing up AT ALL i replace it.

Erm ok i guess ur more of a petrol head so let me up it like this... if a battery wont hold a charge its to to get a new one.
