Locost Presentation

just found out I have to give a 10 minute presentation on my build and locosts in general tomorrow, its for a course im on. We had to fill in a form about our hobbies, i obviously put locosts. He then picked out 4 people to give a talk on their main hobby

I have an idea of what i want to talk about, but does anyone have any suggestions or good resources

Im looking for some comparisons for power to weight, a bit of history, any other ideas?

many thank

Liam Mc

i would talk about why the lotus car came about, chapman's history in special building, then say about Ron's involvment in "special" building and relate his achivement to that of colin chapman, thats where i would start, gives you more than enough to talk about,

I hate public speaking too - getting better with practice though. Always good when its on a subject you enjoy and know a fair bit about, makes it so much easier.

As for ideas, how about highlighting some of the alterntive designs out there, talk about the merits of different suspension designs and the basics of chassis design. Explain a bit about different engine choices etc. Think of the questions that come up on here over and over again.

The tips i have piced up over my time at uni are: Make your presentation very simple, (not sure if you are using power point or whatever), aim for no more than 1 slide per minute and minimum of size 18 arial font on slides. Only put 2 or 3 points on the slide, and if its a picture make it a whole slide with no text. Try to set up so the laptop is infront of you so you dont need to look away from your audience when you are speaking. Try not to use crib notes - the slide should be enough, if you forget a minor detail no one will know unless you let them know by fluffing about.

Take from that what you will but I always employ those techniques and they do work wonders and make you come across as quite professional, even if you are terrified! 10mins goes very quickly when you get talking.

Good luck!

David

I also hate public speaking, use the slides as bullet points so you remember what you where going to speak about, but what ever you do don't read the slides word for word there's nothing worse than when people do that.

I used to film people giving presentations as a debrief aid,
You are the expert,
they no nothing about your subject.
All previous replys have good advise.
bullet and go.
A little history
A little why
a little more how
dont forget the wider world of kit car web sites.
and the conclusion..... fast, cheap, exclusive, knowledge, belonging, problem solving............... it's this last bit that you can craft to fit the course, to tell them how much it takes to build one.

Now I am quite used to public speaking but that really is a challenge.

Unless you have a weird trainspotter type attraction to storage tanks.

Interesting phrases (or philosophies)...

Wasn't 1 of Chapmans "building in lightness"... might make people think more about what your saying and remember it more... maybe even ask what the people in the audience think he ment by that.

If they've understood all you've said they should be able to answer it.
