Mondeo/Zetec 1.8 Overheating

Prob as in title. Came to work and on the way car overheated.
The is fluid topped up and the fan was working.
This was all i could think that would cause this to happen.

Any ideas as to what else may cause the problem.

TIA

Nige

what exactly do you mean by over heating? Temp gauge went into the red or loss of water/boiling over from the radaitor?

The water was boiling and steam/pressure was exhausting from the expansion tank cap.

Noticed the prob sat in traffic and steam coming from under the bonnet.
The temp gauge was virtually in the red

Thanks

The thermostat could be stuck? Or the fan is cutting in to late?

One thing to check is that the small degass hose that goes into the header tank is not blocked check the inside of the plastic nipple it fits onto aswell. Also a faulty pressure cap can cause bad circulation, and overheating.
I am sure other things to check will follow.
Steve.

When that happened on my 2.0 Mondeo the problem was head gasket. Is it blowing air into the header tank when cold/warm?

Thanks for the advice. It appears the Thermostat is broke. Went for a drive to warm the car up.
Both the Top and Bottom pipes to the Radiator were cold.

Will fit a new one and see how we get on.

Cheers
