Travelling to America

Can you help me?

My family and I are going to Orlando in May. We all have our own Machine readable Passports, which have laminated photos in them. The question is, do we need any sort of Visa or do we just fill a visa waver form in on the plane?

Any advise greatly apriciated.

Leigh

Green waiver on the plane, although they will fingerprint and scan your iris on arrival

I went at Christmas, they didn't scan my iris, just took a picture with a webcam looking type thing, but that was in Chicago with a connecting flight to Orlando.

Just be careful how you answer the question on the form you get on the plane about whether you are travelling to the US to kill the president...

Most UK citizens can enter the US under the Visa Waiver Programme details for eligability are here:-

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/niv/vwp.html

As long as you don't have a criminal record most people are fine.

If in Boston then head north to Salem, tax free and they have a few stores that are a cross between Halfords and Motormania.
When in Boston go to the Cheers bar doesn't look anything like it on the inside but the beers good.

I wouldn't buy any food when your in any of the Disney theme parks. Its not well known but; the US health & hygiene people did a surprise inspection of thier kitchens & food outlets. They were so shocked they just said "Stop everything your doing!"

we're off to florida in september, my pal had to visit the embassy in london for an interview in order to get a visa. His crime? Drink driving, 5 years ago! Dread to think what they would think of a drugs offense!

Whats the difference between scannable passports and normal ones?

I also read that if you have been banned from driving in the past then you might have trouble hiring a car. Anyone know about this?

my identity was stolen/used in a fraud, was arrested and released without charge after interview (all charges dropped lots of apologies etc)
And i still needed to go to london to get a visa (was there when the no carry-on luggage rule came out !)
was questioned for around half an hour at US immigration
scary or wot? and all for something i didn't do, i was the innocent party.
so Check and check again, any offence ,no matter how minor you will need a visa.
Bl*&dy good holiday though!
make sure you watch the stunt show at disney studio's (bike engined rear drive corsa's :cool
beleive me you WILL want a bec when you come home, I did

They just won't let you in.

They don't have much of a sense of humour when it comes to their quite utterly useless green visa waiver form. My dad ticked the 'are you here to do anything in relation to terrorism' box once (he was there to train their police), they didn't see that it was actually a quite legitimate answer to the question, nor were they amused. As if a terrorist is actually going to see the form and tick yes, i'm here to blow sh*t up, but I can see your smarter than me with this form, it's a fair cop guv i'll turn myself in now. 'Tards
