don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

pretty sure some of the off-raoding boy do this kind of stuff - depending on what you are aplanning, you may need to alter drive shafts too.
cheaper to find narrower axle or wheels with -ve offset.

basically i need a 52" axle (mine is 56" and at the same time, i could do with the hubs drilled for 6 studs. hmmm, and disc brakes too.
tbh, I'm not entirely sure what i'm planning either, but i have to stick with live axle ( i actually prefer them too)

Axle Narrowing
I had my Volvo axle narrowed for my Reliant Kitten.
The basic method is to turn out the hub ends then weld them back into the shortened tubes. How you ensure everything is straight is upto you! Some put
a big bar all the way through.....
I had my half shafts resplined but they broke. Next I had the hub flange and bearing surface bored, this was then slid down the shaft and welded.
I would buy custom shafts if I was doing it again from the likes of Hauser, Strange etc
