Can some of you put up some pics of how low down your engines sit in the chassis please. What im after is seeing how much sump you have bellow the chassis rail as i think we may need to lower the engine i just want to see what i can get away with.

Most people seem to go between 0" and 1" with the majority closer to 1"

A lot depends on the ground clearance you set - for road use I wouldn't go less than 3" below the sump with 4" the prefered clearance.

Absolutely mental - luv it

Having seen a Viento with a Rover V8 in I would have thought you would have no problems fitting that lump in. I would work from the bottom up and work on ground clearance as the deciding factor. The number of speed humps you have locally may determine how low you are willing to risk.......

the subject of ground clearance has been discussed many times on here so a search should help. General opinion seems to be 3"-4" is OK

Have used the standard luego mounts and rubbers for a RV8 so this is what I have ended up with - also a Standard rangerover sump.

final ride hight will be 6 inches from chassis rail ( not set yet in diagram - only about 4 ) sump extends a fraction over 2 inches bellow rail.

Second diagram shows clearances at top. The nose cone end gives me 9 inches of height level with the nose cone mounts. The scuttle end gices me a fraction over 11 inches. Rescued attachment info.JPG

DaveFJ - that lump makes a RV* look very small

Yes but I remeber thinking when I saw a RV8 in a Viento that you could 'fit another engine in there' !

Mark,

Mine's about 3" below bottom rail, but bear in mind this was measured with car on ramps and stands so can't say it's accurate.

I do have a rather large sump guard which takes quite a pounding

Also, you may find that yours being a Viento, mine being a Simon(!) that you have more ground clearance to start with. Iirc my engine is about 2" off the ground!
