Another inquirer divined that it was 3.14 from the VIN plate, but I've not had a chance to confirm that yet.

Any idea what those are worth?

I'd doubt you have a 3.14 ratio diff, particularly if the diff code has been taken from the VIN plate of a 2.0 Estate.

Well, the VIN plate was one of the few original parts from the 2.3D car, along with the diff
Anyway I'll try to get the numbers off the diff itself tonight and see if they mean anything.

EDIT:
Blimey it's tricky isn't it!
The VIN plate has code M for the ratio, which is definitively 3.14, and the plate definitely came from the same car as the diff.

Unfortunately there is no tag on the diff but the stamped number is
83BG
4033
AE

Apparently this code is just for the housing and doesn't indicate the ratio. I think it means it's a 7" though.

So I'm fairly confident it's 3.14 anyway

Great, the diff and gearbox are on their way to good homes and interesting projects

Are there any other bits worth separating for kit builders?

Somebody will want the steering column, down link, plastic cover and switches.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
