Check the connections arn't arcing
Three spade block connectors on Lucas (and other) alternators cause a lot of problems they carry a significant current and are subject to oil and
vibration.
Clean and polish everything throughly and renew or squeeze in the spades and make sure they make good solid contact with the blades.

A car I drove had aglowing light for ages, the more stuff you switched on the more it glowed. Was always fine tho no break downs in 3 years.
I always put an earth strap from main unit bypassing mountings in the engine block.

If it glows brighter the more you rev it , that's usualy the regulator.
