Engine
Greetings
Now i am getting used to the Locost i now need more power.
At the mo i only have a 1300 crossflow.
What engine would i be able to put in it with out having to do to much changes.
Hope that makes sense
Dave

Whatever engine you put in you will always want more power
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

I helped change a crossflow/4 speed box to a vauxhall xe + ford type 9 5 speed box
Wasn't to difficult, just made new engine mounts, gearbox mounting plate was redrilled, change prop, exhaust was the hardest part though
the difference was amazing, think the xe was lighter than the crossflow!but with twice the power![](/images//smilies/bigsmile.gif)
If it doesn't fit MODIFY it!!

What diff ratio are you running? Most people could probably do with going a bit shorter which will give you more acceleration.
Although think about running fuel injection, a good MPFI setup with get more horsepower out of your car without changing over to a bigger unit ( and
throttle bodies always look cool ).

Minimal change would be a 1700 crossflow.
If you don't have a type 9 gearbox already a BEC would be a similar amount of work (if a lot more cost) than a zetec. But they aren't for
everyone.
