Cost of media blasting a chassis
Anyone have any idea on the cost for media blasting a chassis?

But do it with hammerite red oxide first it does wonders in preventing the hammerite chipping off!.
I guess this is the car you just bought. Invest in a cup brush for your angle grinder, as it is light surface rust that will get rid quicker than
media blasting but paint over the same day with hammerite red oxide or zinc paint so it doesn't oxidise.

Wouldn't bother, I've had Radio Four on all the way through, loud too, and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference.

Or a flap wheel for the grinder. Much quicker than a wire brush, and it won't remove any more metal than you want.

Hammerite or Smoothrite actually prefers a bit of rust to hang on to and will last longer too.

Gazza Radio4 ! no wonder it didn't work. You need Radio 1 or a commercial station and a stupid size amp and subbass speaker and that just about
keeps the rust OFF chavmobiles. To clean the stuff you need much stronger media. Try a satelite porno channel and a stuffing great video projector
really close to the rust a much more aggressive media, though newsnight used to be a good aggressive media

I used to roadie for MDB, I met most of the Peaceville bands over the years. I first met Hammy when he had the office next door to the gas bottle
place and still see him every now and again

I did the "Turn Loose The Swans" tour, between me and Mark (the other driver) we managed to crash both vans, wiped the nearside front of
mine in Liepzig, and Mark totalled his on the way to Vienna. What a laugh riot that was, elevated the band to new lows of misery.
Haven't seen Hammy for years...........

That would be right, after the last gig I had to take the replacement van back to Liepzig and pick up my fixed one, so everybody crammed in the other
van, as that had been fixed first, somebody met them at the ferry terminal.
My van ended up with one RHD headlight and one LHD, failed it's test!

back to the question, between 50 and 100 quid would be a ballpark figure.
place near me charged 50 quid to blast an opel kadett bodyshell to bare metal excluding the rear qtr panels, and that was using proper steel shot not
crappy sand

ive got about 200kgs of blasting media (sand) , which you can have , if youve got a 3hp compressor , it should do the job .
youll need to collect it - and blast an engine for me before you take it away

and that was using proper steel shot not crappy sand
We had a blast cabinet at the foundry I worked years ago which used cut wire shot. The castings went in to get the sand from the mould off them
before fettling. One of the fettlers put some steel rims on the turntable to clean them while the machine was doing a cycle (about 15 minutes). When
they came out they were like lace curtains

I found the most cost effective way was to use the grinder and the wire wheel for the majority of the chassis and only get the blasting gun out for
the areas there was no chance of getting the grinder into.
Wrap up well or you will end up with sand in places you never knew you had!
