Engine Conversion to Rear wheel Drive.
Has anybody out there ever fitted a RWD gearbox, of any type, onto the following engine.
Mazda - 1489cc DOHC 16valve - from a Mazda 323f 5 door car.
I have had the car since new and the mileage is low.
I am undecided as to whether to forget the 7type and have a go at a 'Midi'
I do have a 7type chassis with IRS.

The Mazda MZR engine is the same as the ford duratec, don't know though wich engine the 323 has, but might share the bolt pattern of the
duratec, and therefore maybe a bellhousing of a duratec could do.
But might be completely different too.
This is on WIKI about your engine:
quote:
The 1.5 L (1489 cc, 92 hp) Z5-DE was used in the 1995-1998 Mazda Protegé, Mazda Lantis (Astina) and in Mazda Familia Neo (1994-1997). Bore and stroke
were 75.3 mm and 83.6 mm. The Z5 was a totally new design but didn't succeed and the development was discontinued. It's the only Mazda
engine with these piston dimensions.
And this about the Z series of mazda engines:
quote:
The Mazda Z engine family is an evolution of the B family. It started with 2.0 L and 2.3 L variants found in the Mazda3, Mazda Mazda6 and Ford Ranger.
For 2004, Ford dropped its own Zeta Zetec engines in favor of Mazda's, naming the resulting engine the Duratec 20 and Duratec 23.

As posted, the B series (B6, BP, BPT etc) spawned the Z5, so the B6/BP boxes from an MX5 will fit.

Go for a middy! No need to change the gearbox then
Cheers,

When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box
