Prep primer for top coat

Is P1200 wet and dry to fine a paper to prepare primer for top coat? The top coat will be clear over base if that makes any differance

I would use 1200 wet with a drop or two (literally) of washing up soap in the water. Also use a rubbing block and be careful not to rub too hard on the edges.

1200 is very fine. In the dyas where wet'ndry was the way, before dry sanding, we used 800 for final finish before base coat.

Do most of the sanding with 600 but finish with 800.

1200 is good if you need to nib any bits out of the basecoat between coats though.

isn;t Smart51 our painting expert?

pretty sure I have use 1200 for the last but one coat - it will clog quite quickly (maybbe that is what the washing up liquid prevents?) if your surface is not smooth.

usually I do several coats and rub down with 600 ->800 -> 1200 beforethe final coat.

another paint question - DIY metallic

now that my scuttle is off, I am thinking of changing colour since that part is the most difficult to paint - saves a lot of masking,

I am thhinking of going with a flouorescent orange ... and metallic.

First question - am I right in thhinking that any paint can be made to be metallic by addin inn metallic flakes?

Secondly, other than touching up scrapes that did not turn out great, I have never painted metallic. My technique for non-metlalic cellulose painting is to lay down several coats and to sand down each one
starting with 600 and ending up with 1200 before the last coat is spraywed. Will this work with metallic?

Will I get noticeable colour vairations if the coats are not even on different parts of the body work?

Can I sand down the final metallic coat before putting down the clear lacquer?

Can I sand down the laque and then put on another coat or is one enough?
