Alternator no worky or you've plumbed up the wrong connector to the back of it - You're looking for 0v when off and 12v when running...

Have a lookHERE to see how to test the wiring, was discussed only 2 days ago.
Even if it is not a lucas alternator the wiring will be similar and will work the same. Small wire will be ign. lamp, heavier will be positive to the
battery.

remove the small thin wire from the alternator and tie it away from the chassis. Turn on the ignition and the warning light should NOT illuminate.
Touch the removed wire to the chassis and the light should illuminate. If this is ok the suspect your alternator is goosed or your on the wrong
terminal. If the light comes on when the wire is removed and not touched to the chassis then you've got a wiring problem.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

igntion 12 V ----- lamp ------- alternator charge connector
^^^ that is how it should be wired
depending on your alternaotr, if it is lucas with 3 tabs, the smallest tab is for the charge lamp.
other types have studs, and the one labelled D+ is the charge lamp.

Just as it should do. It's working fine. You'll also find that as soon as the light goes out the voltage at the battery jumps from
11.something to 13.something.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

My V8 Fury was exactly the same. I thought I had a knackered alternator until I gave it a bootful testing that I'd wired the adjustable rev
limiter in correctly. It goes out at about 2.5k rpm and then stays out when it goes back to idle. Mash the loud pedal and see what happens

Shouldn't do that fault you have somewhere --- Assuming the fanbelt is tight if the alternator has spade connections start by checking those
they carry a lot of current.

Just remembered - I had something similar on my Rascal van. Cleaned up connectors at lack of alternator and it went away. But I'm sure you would
have tried that.
The light goes out when the alternator output voltage approaches or equals the battery voltage so presumably this is not happening - it's either
higher or lower than the battery voltage. you could measure battery terminal voltage, alternator output voltage and voltage on the IND terminal
(connection to the charge light) This should give you an idea of what's going on.
I would suspect poor connection between alternator and battery, battery itself and then alternator regulator
(in order of expense )

have replaced the multiplug on the alternator and replaced the regulator inside it..
