Top Gear last night

Again a quality TV programme, the BL challenge was hilarious.

Anyone know why Hamster was wearing an SAS badge on his lapel?

Is he a member of the Special Forces Club?

I liked the line about "large panel gap" when the door fell off the SD1.

Interesting idea for testing fit and finish - fill the car with a couple of tons of water and see how far it gets. I was quite impressed that the cars moved at all... suppose it must be the old-school engines which run on petrol and not electronics

Here's Hamster in his Regiment days.
No wonder he crashed the dragster, he couldn't see anything.

The BL test had me howling with laughter.

I especially liked Clarkson's double door!

Getting back to top gear last night I found the BL feature completely stupid.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, but as always they took it too far by faking stuff. Are we really expected to believe that Clarkson's doors just 'fell off' due to a bumpy road and some internal pressure?

I bet it had a few people who are restoring those particular models in tears.Loads of good bits being ruined. The numberplate on the Princess with "Dad" in it must be worth more than the car though.

Hammond's handbrake, May's suspension lean and their general loss of engine power is more to do with maintenance of 30 year old cars than with the manufacure. The programme is more to do with entertainment than information, but is none the worse for that. My wife laughed histerically at the doors falling off. That is the wider apeal of Top Gear now.

I would miss the programme if it wasn't there

It may be daft but it is amusing

Cheers

I bet the producers would say something along the lines of the faking / setups adding to the drama or entertainment value

Personally I liked the Africa one - it looked like cracks were starting to appear in the production - its always better to watch when things go slightly wrong

I must admit I was a bit worried at first as I don't agree with all the British Leyland knocking.
However the feature proved very entertaining and I was surprised that Clarkson didn't manage to make himself the winner as usual.

Whenever they have money to go buy a car they must look for the worst example they can find. Either that or the sellers see them coming and bump up the price.

If you take it as entertainment rather than a source of information, it's BRILLIANT!
Who would have thought The Hamster was an ex Hereford Hooligan?
It certainly explains a lot.

I don't believe for a minute that the door falling off was real. I suspect some of the other bits were rigged too. I can tell you that they didn't drive the cars into MIRA either.

I like the daftness of top gear, but I think the mark got crossed last night.

I hate BL products but the door falling off jape was a bit daft and demeaning to think that people would think its real.

I also can't believe that Clarkson could slag off the Morgan Aeromax publicly. It is a superb vehicle, totally unique and totally british.

Apart from the engine Which is German.

Next time we have a war, could we lose as it seems to be the only way to make a country an economic force.
