Very Small Portable TV

My night shifts are a real slog - 12 hours of NOTHING but sitting in a box but at least it will pay some bills until something better comes along.

I need a very portable TV so a 14 incher is out of the question. Can anyone recommend anything small but good quality? Failing that, are these tuner cards any good for laptops as I have my lappy with me to log in and do some admin.

Cheers,
Raz

What about a portable dvd player? Have you seen the crap that is on at this time of the morning? With a dvd player you could record stuff that you like and watch it later

Maplins do small flat-screen TVs, 5 and 7 inches.

Quality is not bad but will depend a lot on signal strength where you are.

(I'm on night shift and my job is monitoring TV )

I've got my lappy for films - just watched the Bourne trilogy back to back LOL.

I tried the digital dongle thingies but couldn't pick up a single station even with a humungous aerial.

At this time in the morning I'm prepared to lower my standards somewhat in the interest of keeping the brain going on autopilot. However I draw the line at the latest craze of "Strictly chef's celebrity brother in the jungle on ice"

Browsing on eBay I found this

Are they any good? They seem too cheap to be true but I figure that most of the cost of a TV is in the screen, so my lappy will save me some dosh.

Well, at this precise moment, you have the choice of BBC1 - Top Gear , BBC2 - 24 hour news, ITV - A "romantic teen comedy" and "The Dish" about an Australian radio telescope on Four. and a film on Five if you can get it. - not too bad

Edit to add

At that price worth a try but note what they say about outside aerial

Nope, the freeview was a failure for me so I'm stuck with steam powered tv.

Just a thought - BBC and ITV are to start a service downloading archive programmes in real time . Don't know what's involved (broadband obviously ) and if it would cost but maybe worth a look ?

That mini dish looks good but it might be a bit ott for me though - I would be in danger of looking like a REAL security officer!

I think I will give one of those pcmcia cards a go - less than £18 sounds good.

yes, I went for the 3 PAYG deal at £10 for 1Gb. Not bad but it is rather slow and twitchy compared with normal BB. At least I can get on line though - more sanity preservation

For freeview you will need an almost unobstructed path to the transmitter to receive channels, a screened coax cable helps as well.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

How about 1 of those stand alone (PvR?)/ USB media drives, leave it plugged in all day at home recording things and then take it to work and play it onto the laptop.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/138452

That kind of thing, just found that quick as an example, I think you can get them with freview built in as well.

Then you can also rip Dvd's or put downloaded ones onto it to save filling your laptop Hard drive as well.

Or invest in a "small radio" for your desk:

I still can't believe what that does for the money!
