sierra steering column

hi all can any on tell me on the bottom of the sierra column theres a bush is it ok to just stick this in to a bit of metal or shoud there be a rubber round the metal iv tryed to show in the picture if any one has pics of how they did theres id be greatful thanks Rescued attachment 103_5676.JPG

On the donor sierra there is a plastic bush which lives in that hole. You can get them from MNR Here <- Scroll to the bottom.

I am not too sure if it will pass without? To be honest, for £4 + Postage, etc... I wouldn't risk it.

Is how I did it on the Indy.

New bush cost a couple of quid from Robin Hood at a show.

Initially I used a bush but it was binding very slightly and made the steering very notchy. I replaced it with a spherical bearing and it is silky smooth now.

It is IMO designed to slide over the shaft in case of collision.

So if it can there is no problem to replace it with something else.

As I remember, the ford bush expects to be fitted in a thicker bulkhead and perpendicular to the shaft - I made up a bracket as shown by the thick black line. The springy washerery thing goes down on top of the bush to prevent the inner bush bit migrating up the shaft. Rescued attachment picture.JPG
