Passed SVA at Avonmouth today

It took 30 seconds. Checked the brake pipes were ok visually and that was that. I have found the VOSA guys efficient and helpful. DVLA another matter.

Stopped at the Bristol DVLA office on the way home. Queued and gave in paperwork to register vehicle. Told that an inspection was necessary and guy could not do it then. Booked an inspection for 3.30. ( 2 hours later). Sat in Sainsburys working to kill the time. returned at 3.30. The inspector came out and said he could not inspect my vehilcle because I had deviated 50Metres off my route back from SVA. It was DVLA policy not to condone unlicenced vehicles on the road . Took 3 visits for him to the office manager to get to this position.

I now have to wait for him to call me to arrange a home visit at his pleasure.

Could we agree an appointment time? No. It could now be up to 6 weeks wait to inspect the chassis number which VOSA had already inspected.

At Christmas proir to the SVA I had called in to try and arrange a home visit. That also was not possible until the SVA was completed.

A letter will be winging its way to the CE of the DVLA.

Ian.

Much sympathy, I am till trying to get my car inspected and the chassis number and colour agreed! That is after arguing for a while over the requirement (or not as it happens!) for an MOT. Good luck with DVLA

Well done that man. Once you get over the fun bit you could start enjoying your self.

Congratulations on the pass.
Don't forget to invoice the git, for the two wasted hours that they told you to wait.
I bet his wife doesn't let him speak at home.

Congratulations!

I found the DVLA exactly the same the first time I saw them in person but fine when I attended the booked appointment. Best of luck anyway!

Well done on the pass Ian, really sorry to hear of your problems at DVLA. It is a great shame you are not able to deal with Exeter. They will inspect before SVA and a friend of mine, a fellow Locoster did exactly as you did and deviated after SVA and got the car registered. No question of needing an MOT either.

What a shame they cannot get their act together.

Hope you don't have to wait too long.

John

I found DVLA Bristol very efficient, I asked about taking the car down the day after SVA and they were fine with it. That was four years ago though and the people may have changed Agree totally about VOSA Avonmouth, the guy who did my SVA and retest was very fair and reasonable.

Well done on the SVA pass, thats got to be the hard bit out of the way. Its a real shame about the DVLA though. Why did they need to be so anal?

Hope you get it all sorted soon.

Mark.

Where can I sign for a job where I can treat everybody like crap, and still keep it?

You just don't appreciate the time this poor snivelling servant spent telling you to wait. Get with the programme, would you?

Don't worry, you're almost there!!!

Well Done at passing the SVA.

Now as everyone else including me, sit down, take a deep breath and plan your first long drive.

When you are finished planning, Mr Inspector will be knocking on the door and before you know it, it will be time to get those plates made up and fixed on the car.

Put a smile on your face and think about the drives and happiness to come........It will soon be over.....
