Steel supplies

I got a qoute for steel for my book chassis today

Asked for 25mm x 25mm x 1.6 ERW

They said 1.6mm isnt common,is this correct?

They have 1.5mm in stock,Will this be ok for the book build

Has 1.5mm become the norm now then or is 1.6mm still available?

Ive got 24 Meters for £18.96 at my local stock holder

£4 approx a length + VAT

We use this company alot so may just be well discounted,I collect it tomorrow

i used Skeery steel in blantyre and got 7.8 mtr lenghts for £8.50 inc vat

You were ripped off.
I got some from a decent tool/steel shop in Cambridge (Mackays) and I'm sure it was around £10 for 4m a year ago.

Steel stockholders are much cheaper and while prices vary a lot depending on when you buy, £60 for 9m is mad (unless you had them cut it into a lot of shorter bits - they often charge a lot for doing more than one cut).

1.6mm is 16swg (as near as dammit) i.e. imperial measurement. 1.5 is the metric equivalent.

Wont make any difference for a locost chassis.

hmm, i did have them cut it a lot... maybe that was it. I'm sure it was near £60 though.
i'm probably wrong. i barely remember last week never mind a year ago
