MX-5 mk1/2 fan, strange?
As soon as the car gets electrical power, the fan starts, even if the car is totally cold from having been parked all night. I was wondering if maybe
the computer tells it to stop once the car has reached some speed (not easy to check), or maybe that fan is meant to be on all time.
Girlfriend has had this car for a few years (a lovely mk1 which I steal from her whenever I can) and it's always been like that so this is not a
fault, or at least not a recent one!

has it got air con? even if it is removed turning it on will make the fan run all the time

from memory - the mk1 mx5 had 3 (yes three) temperature sensors on the block; one for the gauge, one for the ECU and a third thermal switch for the
fan. This last one is a comparatively chunky beast near the front of the engine.
I think it operates via a relay in the engine bay, back right when viewed from front

Thanks guys, OK so that means I actually have a fault on a relay or sensor etc.. that makes more sense now
