Vehicle exise duty

Just got some paperwork sent through from dvla, i notice that for a vehicle over 1549cc 6 months tax costs £99. Wonder why they didn't round the cc figure to 1600?

Because most "1.6 litre" or "1600" cars are actually a bit under, like 1593, so setting the exact value halfway between 1500 and 1600 ensures that "1.5 l" vehicles pay the lower duty and "1.6 l" the higher duty.

Prob because come 1600cc cars are actually 1598, 1596, 1591cc etc.
So they prob used the 1549cc as a cut off medium betwoeen 150 and 1600???

Steve

You would be kicking yourself if you bought a 1550cc car

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Taken in the context of what it costs to run a car for a year, the difference in road tax becomes somewhat insignificant (unless you do very low mileage).

It would be worth welding a washer to each piston top!
