Suspension Novice

Hi (my first posting) Just finished building my Luego Locost. Hoping to race at Snet. Bolted the suspension on but have no idea what to do now. I would be very grateful of some settings. Planning to take it to a garage but dont know what tell them. Any info will be much appreciated , and hope to see you at the races.

Welcome to the madhouse Samuel.

If the locost is the same as the Viento/Velocity then you want 0.5 deg negative camber all round, 5 deg neg castor on the front (usually achieved by spacing the top wishbones with the washers) and 1 - 2 mm of toe-in on the front. 18 psi in the front tyres and set a little bit of trailing hub before you set camber and you should have a reasonable first set up.

If its Gaz shocks then these are from memory 40 clicks from min to max - Think I started at 15 from min and then tweaked a few after a long road test...

It's very good of Neil to give you the settings that he has, but if I were you I would take it to someone that specialises in setting up race cars.

I know you are in Portsmouth and I don't know of any near to you, but if you want to travel to Birmingham then you could do a LOT worse than taking your car to Matt @ Procomp. He is a member on here (under his Procomp name) and would be more than happy to talk you through a few settings, but if you don't have the full equipment to set the car up then there isn't much point in knowing that you need certain settings like; 1 - 2mm of toe-in at the front (I think that's quite a lot TBH). The same applies to your shocks.
It's all well and good to say that you need 15 clicks, but that is only for one persons wants/likes and you may be totally different (I know Neil was giving you these as base settings and something to move on from, and I hope that I don't sound like I'm putting him down for telling you this, 'cos that's not the case!). Also your shocks will not necessarily be the same as other people - In fact they may not be even the same as each other! (ie a matched pair/set)

My fronts were relatively well matched (I put the slightly better rebound shock onto the driver's side for eg) but the rears are set to 6clicks from softest on the drivers and 4 clicks from softest on the pax side, and this is actually matched (they are virtually the same damping values when set 2 clicks aparty from each other!!!)

The point I'm trying to make is that it isn't just a simple case of knowing a few settings, Especially if you are going to race...

If you are interested I could give you all my settings, but since my car is different to yours, I am diff to you etc etc there isn't a great deal of value to do so.

racing locost. I raced the royal navys car back in 2004. Not the a very fast car if you remember. been building my own since.

Agree with Steve on getting if professionally set up before (and then after a bit of) racing and that Matt and Ivan @ Procomp are your men - base settings provided to get you on the road but I didn't stop to check to find out if you were never intending to SVA it in which case the visit to Erdington would be very worthwhile...
