Has it? Oh well, I remembered another one that looked lethal - this one looks well engineered.

I wouldn't believed that if there hadn't been a video especially after mythbusters failed to do it.

Absolutely brilliant and simple!!

It is rather cool...

But it wouldnt handle going forwards too fast, and there is no way of autorotating (gliding) if the engine cuts out.....so if it goes quiet, its instant death!

Should look up gyrocopters, I want to build one in a few years - loads cheaper and safer.

I'm not sure if it would be a cool way to arrive at work, but it would be a cool way to decapitate your boss!

It runs 4 125cc engines with clutches, so if 1 fails, it automatically disengages the clutch and you can land on 3/4 power

I also looked into gyrocopters (due to Little Nellie no doubt). While they are theoretically pretty safe they aren't easy to control intuitively.
Lots of new gyro pilots die due to 'porpoising' aka Pilot Induced Oscillation, a catastrophic swinging of the cabin under the rotor until it all lets go and you fall out of the sky.

There was another thing (the one Mythbusters could get to work) that was in development about 5 - 6 years ago, but investors pulled the plug just as they were about to have success. The idea was used in one of the SpyKids movies. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it was called.

My boss arrived for work in a chopper once, he landed it on the grass in front of the office. As a young an impressionable aeronautical engineer I watched fascinated as he touched down, then realized that the bladed are whipping past the window with only a few meters to spare. That was when I moved out of my office, and found that pretty much every one else whose desk over looked the grass had retreated to the tea room.

Pretty cool stunt though.

autogyros definably a good way forward if your into this sort of thing.. but as said anything that you fly is iffy if something fails (including pilot error).. Training is a must!

Having meet Ken Wallis:

and seen him flying, and all the different models he has build/designed in his rather nice workshop at his home.. Kinda tempting..

If you ever get the chance to have a look at what he gets upto it's well worth it..

See

For some photos of him at "home"...
