K-series spark

Hello,

Swapping the engine loom and ECU on my Ariel Atom back to the Rover original unit. Most stuff seems to work (starter, fuel etc) but don't have any spark. Signals to coil I think are ok but need to borrow a scope tomorrow to check.

Any suggestions ? anyone near Cambridge willing to help for beer ?

Are the injectors triggering?
If not it may be a crank sensor fault.
If they are it may be a coil supply or coil fault.
Check all earths aswell.
Steve.

If the injectors were not triggering or the crank sensor not working would the ECU not trigger the coil ?

How would I know if the injectors are triggering ? They are wired up via a total lash up so are possibly suspect but don't see how the ECU would detect this and not spark

Rover MEMS ecus are very picky -- even removing the flywheel and putting it back on or swapping the crank sensor can make the ECU need to relearn the engines reluctor ring pattern.

First suspect however is as stevec says the cranksensor not unkown for them to go "iffy" after any major work is done such as a clutch change.

Hopefully an oscilloscope will reveal everything tomorrow. Can check the crank sensor output and low side of coil pack

Crank sensor seems to be sensing the crank with a sensible waveform, not sure the coil is ok or not because I don't know what it should look like, suspect it should have been oscillating more than it was.

I think if the crank sensor signal is not correct the ECU won't generate a spark so crank sensor is my prime suspect even tho its waveform looked plausible.

On Rovers a lot depends on if the MEMS ECU thinks it has the OK signal from the security ECU.

The MEMS ECU, Security ECU and flywheel reluctor ring all have to be matched or the engine won't run.
