Custom bolt supplier?
I need 150 unusual bolts...
Socket head cap-M10 - Length 175mm with a 20mm thread on the end...Preferably finished in black...
They are deffinately longer than any "off the shelf" M10 bolt I have ever seen, and most would have a much longer threaded section on the
end.
Is it possible to have bolts made up to my requirements or is it going to cost me a small fortune?
Any one have any experience with any suppliers?

Would it be a problem if the threads were longer or full length? (i'm guessing it would?)

There is a company in South Shields called Arndale Engineering who used to make custom bolts as well as off the shelf ones
May be worth a try.

They used to specialise in manufacturing specialist fasteners and coud almost certainly make what you need but I've no idea at what cost.
Worth a call I would have thought.

Chears. I will give them a call.
The thread really does need to be short, otherwise I can see the assembly getting over tightened and deformed...

I'm thinking ££££££ but then I have no experience.
Could you get longer bolts, say 250mm, and cut them down if the thread length works OK?

I had considered that, but im struggling to find any M10 bolts longer than about 120mm....
I think I will give the aerospace company a miss....they will rape my wallet....I know how Aerospace companies work lol!

You can get Bolt blanks, and then turn the threads 20mm onto the end yourself.

I would be tempted to buy really long M10 bolts with the right length shank and cut the excess thread off.
There are several manufacturers of bolts in the Birmingham / West Bromwich area. I found a few when looking for long bolts. If they already make
long M10 capheads then it shouldn't be too much trouble to set the machine up to leave your desired length of unthreaded shank. Particularly if
you weren't too fussy about the overall length. As said above, you can cut that off.
The other option would be to buy some simply huge bolts with too much shank and an M10 die. You can then cut the threads to the desired length and
lop the unwanted length of bolt off.
150 bolts is a fair number. I'd expect the charge to be mostly setting up the machine, then pennies a bolt thereafter.

Aren't bolt threads (particularly 12.9 cap heads) rolled? If you go cutting your own thread you lose the tensile rating of the bolt (maybe
unimportant to you).
Otherwise you could get some round bar and thread a small section each end and secure with a nut/washer at each end.

The tensile strength is not important really...Just so long as the bolts dont snap when I put a nut on it!
I actually have a ford gearbox bolt which is almost exactly the right size....but sadly the shank is 15mm too long
I would rather not use a piece of studding with a nut either end...it doesnt look very smart!

If you have room to fit it turn up a 15mm thick washer/spacer (or two 7.5mm one for each side).
Must be cheaper than a specially made bolt.
As above cutting threads isn't a great idea, rolled are far stronger.

Try Kebrell bolts in Brstol. They are specialist supplier. Much of its bankrupt stock so reasonably priced.
