toyota 3sge engine?

howdy.

just bought a mk2 toyota mr2 with a knocky small end but it's come with a spare engine which i'll be fitting in the very near future. this will of course leave me with the other engine which my initial thoughts were to strip the head off and sell what i can to recover some costs..........BUT! has anyone ever fitted one in a 7 style car? would it fit? it's a completely random idea so thought i'd just run it here to get some thoughts back on it. 156bhp 2.0 16v

Popular donor engine in Australia, RWD toyota gearboxes probably ten a penny down under. Getting a ready to fit RWD gearbox in UK might be harder to find. Also a very heavy engine.

RAW Engineering do a FWD to RWD conversion for the toyota 4age engine.

Would have thought that it would have the same bellhouse pattern.

3SGE's used to be standard fitment on the Fraser Clubman made in NZ. Kaspa on this site had one of the meanest of all, ultimately putting out close to 300hp while still registered. He's a bit of a font of knowledge on the things if you want to pm him. I know he's just put another one together for 200hp at the wheels.

Have a look at http://www.oz-clubbies.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7232&hl=3sge

If you do pm him, tell him Rick says he's a sheep shagger!!!

lexus gearbox will bolt straight on. The early lexus is200 used the 2L 3sg block so you would prob get away with using the stock clutch flywheel etc. I just installed a 3sgte in my MR2 so I have the 3sge spare as well. Also I have a mate of mine who has a 3sGTE in his ford escort (link), he flanged the engine to a Borg Wagner Gearbox so that is also possible. All depends on whats avail in the UK and what the costs are.

Hi there, just will put in my quick word and support for the 3sge! They can be mated to many gear boxes, any w5* series box will do or the lexus 6speed which I have.

Yes it might also be a heavy engine, but from some specs I saw a while ago only put it 15kg heavier than a 16v 4age and only 3kgs more than a 4agze. (not sure how correct they are, but will try and weigh mine sometime)

Fraser in nz have been running with them for ages, both with carbs and fuel injection and also in turbo form too.

Just a note thou, the beams 3sge (from the lexus is200)is a pretty tall engine, and fitting it under the bonnet is a problem, mine is now dry sumped (the engine from the mr2 will be fine thou - head is shorter, sump will need to be modified. and doesn't have the massive plenum mine does)

check out the link in my signature for the pictures of mine.

very nice engine to have in a 7, the 3sge weighs the same as a zetec if irc.

there's one going on a UN1 renautl box in a midtec spider. but that's offcourse a midengined one.

the lexus engine is a beams 3sge and has over 200hp stock, gearbox of that is the one you're after A GEM!

grtz Thomas.

Unfortunately not, they are quite different.

I forgot - there's a good bit of detail on Bill Sherwood's site showing the Altezza being fitted to his Fraser Clubman. Frasers are the same dimensions as the original 7 for what it's worth.

See : http://www.billzilla.org/fraser.htm

thanks for the replies folks. i might put the engine to one side then rather than stripping it to sell off the parts. could be a interesting project for winter!
