You need to be 100% certain that the leads are right! Check firing order again!
Take the non firing plugs out and check if they are sparking.
If they are I would try sqirting some easy start or petrol into the carb mouth to see if it fires, if it does then you may need to check that the float needle valve has not stuck shut.......
It will be going by lunch

Are the points opening 4 times per rev or is the distributor shaft bent off centre or the points gap very small?
Is it the correctrotor arm/ cap, check the gap between the arm and contact.
Lay all 4 plugs on the head at once and see if / which spark.

Are the plugs wet?

that clearly shows only one cylinder is getting spark and fuel. whcih cylinder is it?

correct, the rotor arm goes past all 4 contacts in the cap to supply all 4 cylinders.

let's back pedal a bit - xe is vauxhall 16 engine? it has distributor but electronic igniton and a single coil?

you are looking at spart at the lead that goes into the centre of the cap (king lead)? in 2 engine revolution you would get 2 sparks.

if you look at one of the plug leads , you would see 1 spark every 2 revs.

how is the spart triggered? is done insdie the distrributor?

i think i have sussed it

having thought logically about this i assumed something should trigger each spark,
in my case with no ecu it must be the hall sensor, and on further investigation it seems as if the dizzy only has 1 cut out for this sensor on the metal ring inside as opposed to 4
hense one spark per revolution

so it seems i need a different dizzy ,cavalier i think????

so ,the dizzy i have must just send a signal to an ecu???

what are people using when no ecu ?
cheers

LOL!!

The std XE dizzy has just a cam phase sensor used just to facilitate the sequential injection, in fact the motronic ecu defaults to gang firing the injectors if the hall sensor in the dizzy fails.

On the later dizzyless ones the cam sensor is still there, just in its own casing not inside the dizzy. It was just a convenient place to put it on the earlier ones.

What you need is a cavalier 1.6 dizzy, about £40 new on ebay.
