pinto modified rocker

i have removed the original filler from the front of the cam cover, and filled the hole.

my question is do i need to replace it at the back.

i know it makes it easy to fill but if i come up with another way of filling,do i really need it

would i need to put a breather in the cam cover or should it be ok.

Well, if you don't put the filler at the back... how are you putting the oil in??

I would say you will need a breather

there is a blanking plug on the os of the engine that goes straight into the sump.

i was thinking of looking into running straight from the bottom of the oil catch tank back into the sump.

so when i oringinally fill the engine i will do it with the rocker cover off and then top ups can be done through the catch tank..

will this sort of breather be ok

I don't have a breather in my rocker cover
as you say you could fill though the plug on the o/s
I would not feed back from a breather tank though

looking through your archive jacko it looks like you have replaced the filler in the cam cover.

i didnt want to do that.

why do you say not to have a drain from the catch tank to the sump.

cheers

Yes i fitted a cap but that ws when i first made the car if i was doing it agane i would fill from the o/s plug
If you fill though a oil catch tank you will / mite put scummy old oil in the sump.
I would just fill using a funnel in the side plug

so have you removed your filler completly now then.

i understand what you are saying about the "scummy oil"

i will take your advice and fill through the blanking plug.

just need reasuring that the oil pressure will be ok without a breather in the cam cover

You will need a breather! I did a solid cap for my cam cover and it pissed oil out past the cap O ring and through the gasket. I now have a catch tank and breather pipe from the cover but still have not entirely stopped the leaks

I have a cap but it is blocked off it's been like this for 2 years with NO problems

The only breather i have comes out the n/s of the engine like normal but remove the one way valve
