what drive %

Ok all, here is another one for you.

I have been told that a 4x4 MT75 gear box gives 40% front drive and 60% rear drive,,,, is this correct?

What i am after is if i use the 4x4 box befroe a unmarried T box will i get full drive through the rear out put to the second T box without having to weld the 4x4 T box front output up.

God knows what you're trying to build (more info???) but if you only use the rear output of the 4x4 box with the front disconnected you'll just spin the front output. OK this'll be resisted by the centre LSD viscous coupling for the short time it survives, so you'll get some power to the rear output, but it's not a good idea!

If you only want the rear output use a RWD gearbox surely?

hmm I'm thinking the same, why the strange gearbox??? If you want a box for the v6 then, buy classic Ford Mag and in there you'll find loads of specialist ford breakers that will easily find you a good 5-speed one plus the proper bellhousing.

Well firstly i am builing this, so i need to know what dirve i will have from just the rear output of a 4x4 G box, the front will possibley used to drive a PTO .

So from what you say Liam i will not get the drive i need and the G box wont last?

I can get RWD G box but they are not cheap as you proabley know, i have another thread on here about making the 2 MT75 box`s in to a RWD , a 4x4 box and DOHC one.

I can easy get a TYPE 9 but i am hoping to stay with a NT75 as they will copr with the torque it will give out a lot better a lot better . But if need be i will, looking at all things i can go with.

Thanks wayne

i'm no expert on this, i'm just assuming through logic but please correct me if i'm wrong.

if you lock off the front output, you'll get 100% drive to the rear but you'll very soon kill the centre diff, resulting no drive whatsoever.

I`m no expert either so the reason for this question mate.
If that bit of logic is coorrect then i will most definatley have to blow a few TYPE 9 boxs, unless i save up a while for the MT75 RWD box.

Not much idea on gears etc exept that i know that the G wagon Transfer box and axles will cope no worrys.

You can't just weld up the front output, this would make the rear output turn twice as fast, and the amount of power the viscous diff would absorb during it's short life would be huge. The only way of doing this is to lock the diff internaly, e.g. remove diff and weld it up.

MT75 RWD boxes arnt that pricey. Mine went for around £60 if I remember.

Maybe I was robbed! But I did buy the whole sierra for £60.

Looks interesting! Any more info? What bits it made of etc etc?

If you really want to keep the 4x4 box in there and use the front output for a PTO, it's the centre diff you want to weld up - not the front output to the housing (not that you could weld that up anyway being an ally case). I guess you'd then want some sort of clutch if you ever wanted to disengage your PTO.

So then your rear output you want to drop down to a second 4x4 transfer box to drive the 4 wheels? Doable but a bit of fabrication required if you wanna use an MT75 transfer box without it's gearbox attached (gotta keep the oil in etc etc!).

The torque split is nominally 1/3 front, 2/3 rear, but that's only in a no-slip condition when you haven't got the centre LSD locking up changing things.

I'm not into off roading but there are possibly more suitable donors/off the shelf bits for this type of project than MT75 boxes. I dunno - all these underdrive thingamies and separate transfer boxes and what not.

Good lucks anyway - looks like a fun project!

Hi chris, i could be wrong here, but i think you gave somebody a dam good deal there. Unless you mean DOHC MT75 box? Then they are cheap.

All the RWD V6 MT75 box`s i have come across have gone for atleast £250 upto £450.
Type 9 V6 go for around £75
