Warning re Xp Service Pack 3
Windows XP SP3 has been a major source of problems especially on big brand computers.
SP3 was intended as a roll up of previous upates --- ie no advantage in installing SP3 over an updated SP2.
However the problem is SP3 also updates some processor specific files in windows owndirectories. On a windows installion installed from a Microsoft
disc this works fine but the big brand computer manufacturers who use both AMD and Intel processor put both Intel and AMD processor specific files in
the windows directories --- this confuses SP3 when it tries to install and you can end up with a partly or fully screwed up system.
For anyone who has already installed SP3 and everything works -- leave it be.
However if windows offers to install it automatically just say no -- and keep your Windows Xp installion up to date with seperate security updates.
