Tintop Insurance. Are they mad?

I need to renew my insurance.

I have a Renault Laguna 1.8 16v Alize.

I was quoted 548 pounds

I quoted a Renault Laguna 1.8 16v Sport as well

I was quoted 517 pounds

Both cars have the same group insurance. The difference is on the equipment with the sport having alloys, spoiler and trip computer.

Now, if i put mine as modified and install the alloys from the Sport version, the insurance will go up to 598 pounds.

Are they taking the p**s????

the next quote was 917 pounds and

R*C want 2608 pounds.

I give up. Not buying any

I just had a chat with my neighbour who had a Nissan 350Z.

For 9K miles a year was under 400 quid.

No wonder why so many drivers don't buy insurance. It is a fkn joke.

Did you ask them why it was cheaper for the sport version? Cos that's just backward imho...

Problem is they "filter out the undesirables" by sticking a high price on it. My quotes last year ranged from £600 - 5000 (car's worth 3k) so I guess it's a polite way of saying "no"

I would like to do that. Why declare a car modified if you just installed the manufacturers alloys? Both cars are under the same group insurance but with different extras. I will give them a ring tomorrow.

What pi**es me off is that.

You pay 200 quid for a car that someone drives for 5-10K miles a year and get a years no claim bonus. The last 3 years i have driven 85K miles, have no points in my license and i have 4 years no claim bonus. Insurance should treat us with respect and reward us accordingly.

Also because someone crashed on my car, i get F***ed for that as well.

Ok then you'll like this one, 1 claim 2 sp30's. 29 without any ncb.
£700 for an 05 diesel Mondeo
£1400 for a V BMW 750i with ALL the extras.

Not sure how they work that out do they really think I'm only twice as likely to crash a monster like that?

Oh and wait until you're paying several times more for the insurance than you are for the car, £740 for a £150 car. Should be illegal that.

The best one, again from last year, was direct line. They wanted £1000 for the Mondeo AND a £900 excess, then they asked if I wanted to go ahead with it. When I stopped laughing the guy asked me how I could make it more competitive, and I told him to bring the excess from stupid to reasonable. So he dropped it to £400 (and I told them they can halve it again) but that put another £300 on the quote. Eventually I just said they're having a joke and I should do them for false advertising.

So to answer your original question, yes they are completely barking mad; never mind a screw loose they don't have one fully tightened!

Im 23 and thats the same as what i am paying for my group 15 Jag

I always found direct line really expensive. They wanted nearly 3k for my 1.4 civic!

Whatever quote you get online, always phone them up and ask if it is the cheapest price they can do. Its amazing how the numbers significantly drop!

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Insurance in theory pays out who you hit not you, so that's how it can be more than the value of your car - If you hit a Zonda with your Mondeo costs for repairs are going to be a bit more than the value of your car even if you just scuff the epoxy.

You need to shop around.
I currently pay £600andsomething for my 996 turbo with the factory X50 engine upgrade (different map/GT2 intercoolers/etc).
For 450bhp and 457ftlbs I'm fairly happy with that.
